Spring comes 10 days earlier in changed U.S. climate

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Spring comes about 10 days earlier in the United States than it did two decades ago, a consequence of climate change that favors invasive species over indigenous ones, scientists said on Tuesday.

The phenomenon known as "spring creep" has put various species of U.S. wildlife out of balance with their traditional habitats, from the rabbit-like American pika in the West to the roses and lilies in New England, the environmental experts said in a telephone news briefing.

I know that in Vermont farmers have told me they now plant at least a week earlier than they did 20 years ago.

Wait spring coming earlier? Less cold, more warm? That sounds like a good thing doesn't it?

Bullshit link is bullshit.
Global warming is not uniform. It changes weather patterns which could actually cause some places to have a later spring.
Tulsa, Ok.?

It's what popped into google. Last frost dates are used for planting to signal official start of spring. As you can see even in the last 100 years there has been a variance of as much as 4 weeks.

I haven't seen ANYTHING from NOAA or my local agricultural extension that signals anything out of the ordinary variance in last frost dates. Sensationalist article is bullshit.

Your link suggests global warming is uniform. And wasn't the whole hype based on uniform climate change all over the planet?

Otherwise, that's just a climate shift, and these have been going on for millions of years.

Other than that, it just sounds like you're using semantics to try and keep this old dino of a myth alive.

More proof Global Warming is the new religion for suckers.

Awesome, the problem is what exactly?

Last year in MN we still had ice on some of the lakes up north for fishing opener(May 12th) and we never had a Summer. I welcome this climate change for the warmer!

Where did you get this "uniform climate change"? Never heard of it.

Climate change will indeed be global, but hardly uniform.

I'm in Tulsa and Spring is doing it's normal thing here...just now getting past the date when we have to worry about our last freeze. Been that way since I was a kid. Never ever plant your garden before April 15th unless you have a way to protect it.

We need to tax Iceland for that damn volcano spewing all those greenhouse gases!

It sounds good until it leads to ecological catastrophes like locusts destroying all our crops, invasive species outcompeting beneficial species, etc.

Over a long enough timescale, climates change, evolution occurs, and species fall into extinction. This has been going on since long before mankind was a blip on the radar. Why is it that all of these things are suddenly so terrifying?

Because the rate is higher than normal, because we've increased CO2 concentration by 40%. That means two major things. 1) Human caused climate change will cause a mass extinction because species can't evolve fast enough and can't change their ranges quickly enough, especially with the massive amount of deforestation. 2) The climate will go from being ideal for humans to not ideal, in a matter of hundreds instead of thousands of years.

If you don't get the rate thing, consider this. Every month your wife bleeds at a certain rate. If one month she bleeds at 100x that rate, do you say "You bleed every month" and refuse to take her to the hospital? No, because then you'd be a dumbass. Yet, when it comes to things other than bleeding, a lot of people seem to not grasp the concept of rate.

Of course it's true! Everything and anything can be attributed to "climate change" Here's a great article how Global Warming is causing more energetic earthquakes.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/06/18/tech/main4191556.shtml

"Unless the problem of global warming (the problem of persistent thermal imbalance of Earth) is addressed urgently and comprehensively - the rapid increase in global seismic, volcanic and tectonic activity is certain. Consequences of inaction can only be catastrophic. There is no time for half-measures."

OH NOES! Let's raise taxes!

Here's a list of bad things attributed to Global Warming. BTW some are mutually exclusive or contradictory.

When spring is by 10 days earlier, that's by definition climate change.

We know for a fact that the biggest factor in current climate change is the drastic change we've caused in atmospheric composition.

Reality check man. More species make it rather than not. Extinction is NORMAL. It is natural.
