Quit bumping it into stuff. JK I'm curious to know if there is an easy fix as well.

Spray paint chips easily, that's a given. You could use a better paint (car paint, maybe appliance paint, powder coat paint, etc), but that's bound to be more expensive...spraying a few coats of clearcoat wouldn't hurt, and it makes it more glossy...

Tell everybody that it is "distressed". That's the story you get at the furniture store when they're trying to sell you some old beatup piece of junk.

Maximum PC suggested using some Turtle Car Wax on the case to protect the finish, and give it a nice shine.

There are clear polyester films, such as window tint, model airplane film (iron-on), and films made for the bottom of cars to prevent damage from road gravel.

Urethane car paint is tougher than about anything, but it's expensive because it requires a $25 catalyst. For about the same cost, you can probably get the case powder coated, but all the existing paint has to be stripped off first. Powder is so tough that if you hammer it, there's a good chance that metal will come off the hammer. It comes in different types - epoxy, polyester, acrylic, and polyester is probably the best choice.
