Sportsmanship

wait I'm confused. The other team let him score the td? So this is more a personal story then some guy with Down Syndrome scores at a fb game?

There's no pride to be had in accomplishing something that takes no effort. I don't see the point in this. He scored a point because everyone felt sorry for him, not because he was able to score a point. That's pretty damn demeaning. He should be treated as a regular player(If your goal is to make the kid feel happy and not handicapped), not as a disabled kid everyone feels sorry for.

I disagree, he will remember the rest of his life that he scored a touchdown and probably does not have the capacity to understand that the other team let him.

Or, he'll always remember that he has friends that care about him, which is even more important.

Yes, and more... He'll forever remember that one few seconds when he in all his simplicity touched the hearts of many. But, equally important is the Kids on that team who saw beyond themselves and allowed one kid to do what he'll never ever be able to do again... Be normal.
Down kids feel and have emotions but are not able to experience the world us normal folks take for granted. Bravo to all concerned.

Remember, that kid's disability is not like a broken arm or leg... or cancer or some other physical disability, his is mental. He was treated as a peer and for that he will not be grateful. He won't realize it. He'll be like any kid scoring a TD... Happy!

thats all fine, I'm happy for the kid and the other team was really cool to do this, it just seemed by the thread title that he actually scored a td

givin the kid has downs its slightly diffrent. This is not a story of a kid who is missing a foot or something and overcome the odds and can compete. this is a kid who needs help to understand that he can't eat paste.

so letting him score a point is no big deal. hell its even possible he wont' remember it. but for now it made him happy and didnt change the game.

In his mind and in reality he did! This event in his life can never be topped... The day he scored a TD... think about HIS feelings. Try to be in his mind for a second or two... He probably clung to the ball with every ounce of his strength.
This is not about anything more than giving a mentally disabled young boy and for the rest of his life, a very precious gift.

Yeah... It put tears in my eyes! We do have the capacity to feel...

This is pathetic. I am reminded of that basketball game where a team won 100+ to 0 and then the coach got in trouble. It is more insulting to a team that the only way they can score is if the other team lets them.

And I'm sure it made Moonbeam ever so slightly less bitter at life... 😉

It isn't so much that I am bitter but the fact that my awareness cause you to become uncomfortably aware yourself. I am a din in your sleep.

Gee......or maybe, the team that was to be shut out thinks enough of their disabled team mate that they're happy to play along, and "help" him get the TD, to make his life a little brighter?? And the opposing team was willing to give up their shut out for the same reason??

You do realize there's more to life than just winning? Though being the winner is definitely more fun, it's important to be out there playing your heart out too, and that's what this kid with Downs is doing.

Maybe it's time you join the human race. The only thing pathetic about this is your attitude.

Good grief, that is one Pathetic analogy you scribbled up there 😕

The other team didn't let the other TEAM score, both teams participated in a little theater when the game was far from being in doubt.

Sounds like a hell of a coach to me that has a down syndrome kid on his roster at the high school level to begin with. I'm sure alot of coaches would have anything else on their mind when their team is getting owned on the field like that, my hat is off to him for getting the other team to play along for what was likely a complete stranger to them and a pretty unusual request. I'm sure both teams will look back at this being one of those great moments in their lives.
