Are getting rights to sports highlights that expensive? There used to be a great website in the boom of the .com era where you could make your own custom sportscenter, though it obviously wasn't run by ESPN. Now there is ESPNMotion (crappy program) and there isn't a website with tons of clips out there. MLB.com is the best thing there is, though that is obviously only for baseball. And while the condensed games are great, the highlight packages they put together are lacking in every sense of the word.
So how much would it cost to aquire the rights to these tapes for use on the internet? I'm not saying I'm doing it (though I would love to) but I'm curious.
