One of the most infamous ones ever..

You have to watch the replay to really see what happened there..

Theismann's career would end in 1985 with a gruesome compound fracture of his leg, suffered during a sack by New York Giants linebackers Lawrence Taylor and Harry Carson during a Monday Night Football game telecast. On a "flea-flicker" play that didn't fool the Giants defense, Taylor sandwiched Theismann into Carson and inadvertently landed his hip on Theismann's lower right leg, fracturing both the tibia and the fibula.

"It was at that point, I also found out what a magnificent machine the human body is," Theismann said. "Almost immediately, from the knee down, all the feeling was gone in my right leg. The endorphins had kicked in, and I was not in pain."[1]

As Theismann lay on the stadium's natural grass field, a horrified Taylor frantically screamed for emergency medical technicians. Initially, however, many Redskins personnel thought Taylor's screaming and pointing directed at their sidelines was a taunt over the fact that he'd successfully stopped their play.

The announcers seem to think that's his knee bending there, but clearly it was slightly below the knee area.

USC Running Back had a REAL bad broken leg this year versus Nebraska. His leg was straight but his foot was pointed 90 degrees to the right.

Worst weekend for sports in the last 20 years by far...

I really wanted to show only the accident of Barrichello at San Marino in 1994, because it was horrific and nearly killed him, but this video highlights two other accidents from that weekend, one that claimed the life of the great Aryton Senna. :(

While Rubens Barrichello improved in 1994, his career was very nearly curtailed at the tragic San Marino Grand Prix, where a violent crash during practice knocked him unconscious, nearly killing him. Dr. Sid Watkins saved his life by preventing him from swallowing his tongue, but his spirits weren't any better after his mentor Ayrton Senna's death at the race two days later.

When I saw the thread title, Heisman popped into mind. I watching the game on TV when it happened. Freaked out LT and everybody at the stadium. The announcers at the time said everyone could her the "snap" of his leg being broken.

Nikki Lauda (race car driver) getting his face burned-off was a pretty bad sports accident too.
