Just curious about betting on football. I live in Canada and the when gambling on sports a majority of people use sportsline. Does anyone know if there is a way to gamble on football without using a spread, just win/loss. I just won $400 in a football pool at work by correctly choosing 14/15 (maybe 15/15 if/when San Diego wins) and I don't like using the spread system.

As kmr said, it's called money line and it exists. Either you bet with a spread and 1:1 odds, or you get uneven odds and no spread (that is better than 1:1 for betting on the underdog and worse than 1:1 if betting on the favorite).

Yes, all bookies & online sportsbooks have them. I'm sure it's probably like the US and not legal, but rarely in enforced. The online books are run out of the Carribean for the most part, you should do some research in choosing a reputable one with good bonuses and reasonably payouts.
VegasInsider.com is a site that I use for informaiton.

Bodog.com is the best as it has the best website, great customer support, and great reports.
You cannot bet straight-up (moneyline) on every game. If the spread is higher than a certain point you will only have the spread as an option. Not only that, but you will also have games in which you'd have to lay down serious cash just to win a few bucks.
I'm a spread bettor that mainly bets single bets, the occasional teaser and parlay as well. Of course I hit the moneyline up for games I think are potential upsets.
If you are not serious about following sports, then please do not get into sports betting. You don't know how many people I hear who say "it ain't that hard" and then cry when they lose every week. If you plan to bet then you had better bet smart. Don't bet on a game without looking at injuries, trends, home/away, team news/the lockeroom, coaching, and of course talent.
I bet every weekend on a mixture of College/Pro. I'm up a few thousand for the year, but I rarely make a bet over 150 dollars, and I missed several weeks due to being out-of-town. Please be very careful, because if you just have a layman's view of a sport or don't closely follow it -- you will get hurt.
The other thing to be careful with are streaks. You will have bad losing and winning streaks. I've had weekends in which I made what I thought were locks of the Century. I would be supremely confident, and then I'd watch my account balance go from 390 dollars to 70 dollars. I've had weekends in which I hit a few parlays or 8/9 and gone from a a couple hundred to near a thousand.
If you get down for a week and try to recoup it by hitting a big "parlay" or betting all your remainder on a MNF you will bust out quick. Parlays over 5-6 games are stupid for amounts above 5-50 bucks. Unless, of course, you are using a pro-handicapper to make your picks for you (which takes most of the fun out of it). I typically stick to 2-3 game parlays, or parlay in an over/under.

Vegas Oddsmakers are professionals that design the line to create action as close to 50/50 as they can. In other words, they don't care which team wins, but just that they balance action. They will move the line to balance out action, and to prevent the house from getting exposed on freaky stuff. You are NOT smarter than Vegas Oddsmakers. You just aren't, and neither am I. To "beat" them you've got to be very well read, have a love for the sport (oh, and never bet on the team you cheer for or like), and research your ass off. And the biggest thing? You've got to be lucky...
A lot of people think they are great because they bet 5 or 10 bucks here and make money, or that they can pick winners in an office pool. It is very different when you lay down 800 bucks on a weekend and wake up Monday Morning with 200 of it. If you can't handle that then don't bet. If you go to Casinos and have a problem not leaving until you are broke then stay way.
Here's what I did today, and this was a pretty average day for me amount wise:
