I am the coach of a Softball Coach Pitch team that just moved up from three years in t-ball. My wife/manager and myself went to a few coach pitch and 16 and under games to see how they did things.
One of the odd things we saw in the 16 and under game is that the girls doing the practice swings were allowing the right hand to release the bat and the left arm would go fully extended and the left wrist would break over on the follow through to allow the bat to slap their left shoulder blade. They would actually have red spots on their skin. Every girl on both teams did this.
1. What does that accomplish?
2. Injury factors to the shoulder/wrist?
[edit] this was being done with a regular swing motion from both lefties and righties (Lefties would extend right arm and break over the right wrist etc...)[/edit]
