Ok, i have been having this problem where my main comp, all of the sudden, decides that i am not connected to the internet. It will work fine for 12 hours-3days and then just stop for 3-12 hours.
Symptoms: any windows internet application tells me i am not connected to the internet. They do not even appear to 'look' for a connection. This includes IE, MiRC, IE mail and EQ. However, On the Dos-like command prompt i can Ping, DNS, and FTP just fine.
Semantics:
-I use win98
-I use DSL
-I also use a Linux box router with a NAT
-My other computer still goes through the NAT just fine.
-I am connected to the DSL router through ethernet.
-DSL is static ip's (no dns) and so is my problemed comp (on internal LAN)
Things i have tried.
1) switching IP's between my 2 comps.
2) deleting network card and reinstalling
3) switching Netcard to a diff pci slot
4) installing a different network card
5) different network cable
6) plugged the box directly into the dsl modem (bypassed NAT)
7) reformatted windows (via, deleting fat partitions)
8) reset the router (dsl modem)
9) rest my linux box (NAT)
I may have tried other things that i dont recall, atm... but all concluded with the EXACT same symptoms.
Thanks in advance,
Brian
