SPOOKY soundblaster - scaring me.... purpose of 16bit em??????

I have the following lines in my autoexec.bat:

SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 H5 P330 T6
SET CTSYN=C:\WINDOWS
C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\SBLIVE\DOSDRV\SBEINIT.COM

trying to "cut down" I deleted my config.sys and autoexec.bat - well.. when I rebooted I noticed the SoundBlaster driver loading.. When it was done, I looked and noticed it wrote it's own autoexec.bat and added those lines to it!!!!

This is really freaking me out, anyone know a way to not have these dos drivers load?

You don't say which Soundblaster sound card you have, so I have to assume it is a Live of some kind. If so, try this: In Device Manager, under Creative Miscellaneous Devices, disable SB 16 Emulation, then delete the autoexec.bat file. When you reboot, the DOS drivers should not try to load.

AWESOME! Worked like a charm THANK YOU!!!

Question though, what does 16bit emulation do, all the sound I've tested still works fine

oh, and yes it is a sb live card [sorry for leaving that out]

system poll

so unless I'm running stuff in dos that requires sound, removing this will pretty much never be an issue for me then?
