I saw it on ER once, it must be real.

MrDingleDangle: for some reason seeing my quote there while I'm at work really cracked me up :)

I don't think it's humanly possible for a human to go poof and up in flames. I mean, the human body is mostly water for cryin out loud...that's like asking has a pond ever gone up in flame.

I've seen an oily rag go up in flame sitting in the sun.

This needed a bump why?

But to answer your question....I don't really know. I kinda doubt if it's real.

It doesn't happen. At least that was the correct answer when a similar question was on the end-of-year chemistry test (9th grade, I think it was a statewide thing).

Um, no.

Spontaneous combustion is very real.

Spontaneous human combustion.. I'm not so sure about that.

Agreed.
Pile a tall stack of newspapers on top of some rags you soaked with lacquer thinner.

I'd like to see spontaneous human combustion... but it's not real. Anyways, if someone were to just plain pop like when you shoot someone with a sniper rifle on TFC THAT would be interesting... sitting there in a room of people and PRGHRIJHT!!!!!! Heh, yeah, high school U.S. History gives me plenty of time to think.

But there's obviously some form of energy transfer from the laquer thinner to the papers. Energy (in this case heat) can't simply be created.
