Spontaneous Restarting in XP?

I just recently installed XP and it seems my computer has gotten into the habit of spontaneously restarting. I faced this similar problem when trying to install Win2K, it would restart without reason at any given time. I don't know if it's my bios (maybe needs upgrade) or my hardware. I'm running an athlon750 with 256 SDRAM, i have a FIC SD11 mobo (crap)..I know XP is new, but is there any known compatibility issues with this Mobo and Win2K/XP??????

Also, i know it's not the version i installed or even a corrupted file, it works flawlessly on my laptop, and i've installed in more than once hoping to end the reboots...does anyone have any idea????????

aww...man, i can't wait to rid myself of this POS!!!! i'll have the palomino soon, no more reboots!!!!!!!!

Its likely your Power supply.

Spontaneous Reboots can be related to software issues also

In advance features of XP you can un select the option to have the computer reboot when a problem occurs(under setting and advanced). This MAY help but if something wrong is happening making you reboot this probably wont do much.

I had this issue in win2k but it ONLY happened when i was online through my usb Adsl modem and ONLY when i was using it with a file sharing program and uploading at high bandwidth.. Weird, eh? that one i think was related to my usb ports/software interaction i think.

Good Luck

I think your right....Power Supply....I'm running my PC with generic 250watt PSU that it came with......well, i'm only gunna be using it for another two to three weeks until i can get my hands on a KT266A based MoBo and a palomino....maybe i'll unplug one of the CD drives and spare some power......

To turn off automatic restart, go to control panel, system, advanced, start up and recovery settings, and disable it.

Wierdest thing i ever read the other day is that sometimes if you have that S.M.A.R.T. capability enabled on your hdd in the bios, it can cause random reboots...long shot, but sounds like you're looking for straws to grasp...so disable smart and see what happens
