Hey Guys,

I just finished building my computer. Bought an asus a7n8x mobo with an xp2500+ barton chip. Currently it is running at 200x11, but occasionally reboots itself. Any ideas? I have a 13 dollar 400 watt power supply...could that be the problem? Or should I just up the vcore a tad? Thanks!

If it were me, I'd certainly start with a new high-quality PSU, no matter what the actual root problem is. $13 400W PSUs scare me. :Q

Aside from that, make sure to lock AGP bus to 66MHz, run the RAM sync'ed to the FSB no matter what, and bump the RAM voltage to 2.7 volts. Bumping the Vcore about 0.1V sounds like a good idea too.

crap that may be the cheapest 400watt PSU I have ever seen...For average quality 300watts cost around 30 bucks...Expect if you look at say a antec true power 430 or an enermax 465 (430watt) you will pay 80-100 dollars...

Unfortunately when it comes to ocing many try to skimp on one of the most important components in my opinion...

Was it made out of cardboard :D!

I would upgrade the PSU also, if you back down your OC is it stable? Might just need to bump vcore if u got the cooling or lower the OC.

If you can't get it to POST clear the CMOS. RTFM if you need to know how.

LOL. Just to show you guys I wasn't kidding....

http://www.svc.com/pow40maxp4re.html

Anyway, cooling isn't the problem. I have the SLK-900 with a 92mm enermax fan. It stays at around 41 celcius usually. As far as the memory, it is pc3500 Mushkin and it is at sync with the fsb at 200. It is actually running slower than it should be, so I don't think it needs any more voltage. I raised the vcore to 1.7, instaed of 1.65 and it seems to be stable as can be. One thing I do notice though.....my power supply feels like a barbecue :( Guess I will start looking around for a ps, any recommendations? Thanks for the help!

Enermax and Antec are a couple of safe bets. I would go for something in the 350W+ realm if you're going to load it heavily and OC it like a madman :D

Actually you might want to check your RAM. I just recently built a computer for a friend and discovered these random reboots was due to bad RAM.

I have an a7n8x as well and used to have the exact same problem you are experienceing now. I've gone through 2 steps to compeletly fix it.

1st go into your bios and make sure your ram cl is set correctly, I think the default is 2.5-2.5-2.5 and I had mistakenly boughten 3-3-3 ram :( After this step my computer would only randomly reboot once in a blue moon.

be sure you also download a ram checker, like Jknowwhat said, bad ram could also cause these reboot problems.

Check your rev # if its 1.xx then that could be the problem, I've heard many stability issues that have been fixed by people rma-ing to rev 2.0 , which I've done and since then I have not had a stability problem with this board.

Hope that helps
