Spontaneous reboot

I thought my video card was overheating and causing my monitor to go black while the hard drive just spun, but it appears to be something else.

My manufacturer replaced the video card, whose fan had stopped, and another external fan, which had also stopped, but after about a day the problem persisted and its kind of strange.

In addition to the sudden monitor blackouts, I had also noticed that the machine had been rebooting itself on occasion but I didn't connect the two events. That's because when it would black out while I was sitting at it, I would cold shut it down then do a hard boot. It usually takes two hard boots to succeed.

But here is the connection. I now believe when I'm not at the machine, the monitor is going black and then after several minutes, the computer reboots itself. I know there has been a reboot because my reboot process stops at my network dialogue box (cable modem) and waits for a manual cancel command.

Any ideas why the system would be rebooting itself? Could there be something in the BIOS that is triggering this? Many thanks.

i thought there was a something seriously wrong with my puter as it would
spontaneously reboot aswell, it turned out to be a bad connection with my
power bar and pc cord that i was bumping with my foot 🙂

The two most common causes of this are: 1) a failing (or underpowered) power supply and 2) the CPU is heating and triggering an event in the BIOS (or a monitoring program) to shut down/reboot the computer. What is your CPU temperature? If that is within a reasonable range, I'd look at replacing the Power Supply...
