He says that 95% of the troops love President Bush. Very few have any regard for Kerry.

He's flabergasted by how the major news outlets (with the exception of FOX) are mispresenting what's going on.

I have no doubt that the majority of US forces are backers of the Bush administration. I had dinner in the wardroom of the USS Ronald Reagan a few weeks ago and it was probably 2 or 3 non Bush supporters to 10 Bush supporters at the table I was at.

95%? That's one in 20, so how many people do we have out there? That's still a large number.

Perhaps things are different in Iraq compare to Afghanastan.

They over exagarate the bad news and under report the good news.

He said that he's been all over Afghanastan and the news that's being reported has nothing to do with his experience there.

He also said that when Hillary Clinton was in Iraq, the troops had to be ordered to greet her. The inclination of the vast majority was to shun her. Conversely, the troops were overjoyed by Bush's visit.

Afghanistan. Don't you think that he hears what's going on in Iraq though?

why do you think what he hears from Iraq is any more accurate than what the media is reporting?

Misrepresent what? There's hardly any news out of Afghanistan.

Well, we had the President of Afghanistan begging the world for $8 billion in aid as things are woefully behind there. There's also drug lords still ruling parts of Afghanistan and the Taliban are still around and launching terrorist-style attacks.

He said that there is a few Pakistani wackos running around but it's generally fairly quiet.

This guy has a PhD in philosophy so he's no dope.

I'm sure he has a lot of contact with soldiers that have served in Iraq.

I have more confidence in info from someone in the theatre than I do from news agencies that are trying to pump ratings and sell ads.

WTF does a PhD in Philosophy have to do with the war on Afghanistan? Anyone can be tainted by certain biases if they're only exposed to one source.

Whatever.

I found it interesting to speak to a bright, educated army officer about his experiences serving in Afghanastan, his views on Kerry, and his perception of the news reporting here.

Much more interesting for me than watching a talking head read from a teleprompter.

I bet you found the only person with a PhD in philosophy that supports bush and is in the army. Isn't philosophy one of the majors "free" thinking nut case liberals/solocialist teacher/take?

Of course you would...anything that further supports your opinion of the do-no-wrong ideologues running our country into the ground.

And, "whatever"? BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA

I talked to a guy who came back from Iraq at a party, I think he was a marine. He was smoking lotsa weed, and I forgot to ask him what he thought about Bush.

Only major news I have heard about Afghanistan is that the much talked about summer offensive there has ground to a halt because of the reluctance of the beloved patriot's to push it any further. Other then that 95% of the news coverage has been about Iraq. Afghanistan is a forgetten news items nowadays.
