you might want to put spoilers in the title before people respond. I would if you do that.

I thought it was really bad, didn't do the original any justice. I can't take Marky Mark seriously and special effects DO NOT a good movie make!

That was a HORRIBLE movie - I really did not enjoy any of it, but the ending was especially annoying - it was not even coherent with the rest of the plot.

Funny, I thought the ending saved the movie. I figured just as well from Tim Burton's directing. Who wants to see another predictable storybook ending anyway..?

oh and my theory on how it got to earth:

The monkey that got lost in the beginning which sent "marky mark" after him, was never found. BUT, the whole planet of the apes did see him at one point to make him their "messiah". So he was on their planet at one time or another, but left. So while marky mark was on the monkey planet, the little monkey was no where to be found, right?. At the end, the little monkey comes back to the monkey planet and marky mark leaves in his ship. Now where has he been all that time? The time he was gone could be any amount due to the weird rules of time dealing space and space travel. So i think that he made it back to earth and planted his seed on earth. How he did it, i dont know this is only my observation. So when marky mark got back to earth, it looks the same, but probably is about 1000 or more years later than when he was on earth. So that is ample time for the same changes to take place. It mostly has to do with the wormholes that the two travel through. If you studied space at one time you would be able to let your mind run with the possibilities a little. The real question is "How in the hell did that ship's engine work?" Seemed to be a POS to me when he started it. (the engine that killed some of the monkeys in the war.)

It seems to me that there is NO WAY to explain the ending of the movie within the context of this film. Any guesses or hypotheses would be just that--guesses. So, the only way to explain that ending would be in a sequel, of course. *hint* *hint*

it's all a big conspiracy, they get us all pissed and curious about the damn ending and wtf happened and then release a sequel and all the people that saw the first one will go and see the second just hoping it will explain the first one.....hehe......yeah i should probably go to sleep...............................................lalalala....

the movies a joke, the director admitted he couldn't explain the ending, and wouldn't direct a sequel for obvious reasons. burton just wanted to give the finger to the audience. movie blows.

I thought the movie was ok till the end. I was like "WTF Tim Burton, did you run out of ideas" some suprising sci-fi endings are classic like the original POTA, this one was just stupid.

My theory(or what I figured it was) about the ending is this:

When Marky Mark went into the rift, it shot him forward thousands of years into the future. He landed back on earth where his main ship had crashed and caused a cataclysm which whiped out pretty much all life. The earth was re-populated by the smart apes who have progressed through evolution to the level of our Dark Ages. He comes along and fights the smart apes and leaves, going through the same kinda rift. The rift then propells him even further into the future and he is dropped on earth again after a few thousand years of evolution where the apes have progressed to our level of technology. Why does their Washington/Capitol/Whatever look like ours? Heck if I know. But, that seemed to explain it the best for me.

Remember, Thade never did die. He was just trapped inside the glass of the ship. So somehow he espaced out. Yeah, the movie did suck.

New Planet of the Apes = Sh!te

So many things were stupid in it:

The love story between him and the human girl? They spoke 6 words to each other the whole movie!

The engine of the ship works after how many years? I guess that explains why it didn't incinerate the charging ape horde just knocked them unconcious for a little while!

Marky Mark = bad @ss? Hello?!?

Humans getting knocked flying by gorilla's and not getting their necks broken? Apparently POTA has different physics than this planet. Oh but wait - aren't they the same planet??!?!?!?

WTF possessed people to a) make this movie, b) go see this movie - I guess the same people will go see Rollerball too.

I rented it for $3.50 and I want my money back! The real bite is that I can't get those 2 hours back - wait maybe I can use the space pod and fly back in time through some crazy electical storm in space - Yeah that's it!
