Spoilers and front wheel drive cars?

to tell you the truth, most spoilers on any car wether it be front wheel or rear wheel drive are just for show and serve no purpose as far as downforce is concerned

I used to drive a VW Corrado, FWD and it had a spoiler that would extend when you hit a switch(This is the stock one btw). When driving on the highway it made a noticable difference.
