Silly Ferrari's getting their ass handed to them by RedBull!!!

And Trulli & Toyota!!!! :Q I didn't see that coming!

Alonso pwned them all. Good job! He set lap record on Sepang, and was faster than Schumi's pole last year. Looks like those rules to slow down teh cars didn't help much! Also interesting to note how close teh top 5 cars are in terms of speed!

I"m really looking forward to see Qualy 2 and the race! HOpefully Trulli and Alonso can keep their position.

Wtf is up with JV? I expected more!

Also, I didn't realize that they use teh same tires in Quali1, 2, and the race! I thought they just used tires for quali2 and race.

i was sick last night so i just slept through the 1st qualifying which is pretty useless to me anyway. :p

renault will run away comes race day... and that toyota will fade away once the first pit stop comes. :(

Ferrari will bring out the F2005 next race if they get beat up in this one.

Missed Q1 yesterday--forgot that Malaysia is one day ahead :p (was getting ready to watch Q1 today and Q2-Race on sunday)

*sigh* oh well, I just set my DVR to record Q2 and the race. Those RBRs are really fast--Coulthard was really fast in Australia (Klein didn't do too bad either). I don't really like David Coulthard--I think he's a pompous ass--but it's good to see that F1 will be competitive for the first time in a long time (at least until the F2005 makes its debut ;))

No, they're using an aggregate qualifying system now. Q1 on saturday + Q2 on sunday = total qualifying time, which determines grid position for the race (same day as Q2).

Thats wierd... and they have the no tire-change regulation as well.. meaning they qual and race on the same sets?

<--- hasn't been able to follow F1 in the US much. Wierd time zones :(

Yep--one set of tires for Q1, Q2, and race, unless the weather changes. So if it rains, teams are allowed to switch to rain tires. If it clears up, the teams can change to dry tires, but only the same set they used before.

Another weird rule they have now is the one-engine-per-2-races rule. As I understand it, a team is supposed to use one engine for two race weekends, BUT if a car retires before the end of a race, and it has completed at least half of the race, the team can use a new engine in the next race with no penalty. Why would any team with cars out of the points bother to finish a race? If I was in 12th with 5 laps to go, I'd deliberately retire the car so that I can use a new engine next race...

That loophole has been closed, since BAR took advantage of it. You will now have to explain why your car retired which is still stupid IMHO since you can probably just make up some reason.

It's funny, BAR took advantage of it, but their fresh engine bit the dust in Practice session in Malaysia so Button will get docked 10 grid positions. The irony!

The Ferrari boys are pissed. I'm loving this season! Let's see if Schumi can move up teh grid.

lol i actually didn't see that.

Ferrari has said that the F2005 is 0.5-1.0 sec faster than their current car, I honestly don't believe it but heh we'll see.

When Fisichella moved to Renault I thought he made the wrong decision. Ooops. Looks like he has the best car on the grid right now.

That's from Zoolander isn't it?

SPOILER: The plot involves Ben Stiller brainwashed by the villain to kill the PM of Malaysia at a fasion show. END SPOILER

If you haven't seen it, do so, its hilarious!

And on the topic of the Malaysian GP, it seems like a very interesting situation. Look like its heading for another Renault whitewash, but where did those Toyotas pop in? Will they fade away as happened in Australia or maybe they'll finally justify their huge budget.

Missed Trulli's lap, but got home just in time to see Alonso's. I'm liking this shuffle in dominance so far.. hope it stays like this. :)

I was dissapointedi n Schumi...i expected him to fight...he's the best driver and he should be able to muslce that car...he's done it before with Benneton and in his early Ferrari years.

BARs incident was ironic since they skirted the rules to get fresh engines...yet they blew up after 2 laps. Button's comments were quite scathing.

Toyota tho...wat a surprise!
