The SRT-4 is faster to reach 60 mph and the 1/4 mile than many acclaimed sports cars that cost much more, including the Porsche Boxster S, Beetle Turbo S, Matrix MRS, and the new, hyped-up Nissan 350Z.

As far as the kid...
I am 16 and have worked for 2 years. With ~$5,000(only some of what I have earned in those 2 years) I bought a 2000 ford taurus SE all by myself, sure it's not a sports car (but it sure has a damn nice mach audio system), and I am happy as a clam with it. Not only that, but I have to pay for gas, and $100+ insurance every month. That punk kid needs to learn that sh!t costs in this world, and that he should be lucky to even get a graduation present, let alone a $20k car.
