splitting vidieo

Can anyone recco a good freeware tool to split movies into segments. Typically i want to split a 700M 100 minute movie into 2 halfs so i can burn each to a dvd.
I'd really like one that accepted mpg, avi, and as many other formats as possible without having to re-encode.

I use Virtual Dub. It's a free program, and it has a lot of useful functions, including the one you desribed above. I'm not sure if it supports as many formats as you want, but I know it supports avi files, so give it a shot. Basically, you open the avi file, select one part of the movie, and from the video optons menu select "direct stream copy" (or something like that...). Also select the same option for audio. Then save the selected part as a new avi file.
