Splitting one cable Jack between T.V. and Cable modem?

So i have hooked up my cable and my cable modem in my room at my new apartment and the result was less than desirable! Is there a bi-directional signal booster that would be worth my while or am I just going to amplify an already crappy signal!? Is there a better solution?

Also, the real problem is with the T.V. I have a tuner on my computer that i use to watch T.V. and with the increased resolution (i think) makes for a not so good picture.
Please offer any suggestions.

P.S. YES, i googled this already and found no straight forward answer.

Thank you!!!

Can't do much with a crappy signal. Have the cable company run a new line from the distribution box to your PC. You can use a 2 way splitter if the run is less than 100ft.

See how crappy the signal actually is. Go into the diags for your modem and check the signal levels and compare them against "normal" levels (there are several links there that will give you an idea of what is acceptable). If it's too far off the mark, call the cable company and tell them to do something about it.

Diags will probably be accessable through a specific local IP address. My Motoroal Surfboard is 192.168.100.1, for example. Find yours either on the provider's website or google or something.

Alright! This is good stuff! you just can't get this kind of response with Google! I did check the diags and they are low so I'll have to call the cable company because the distribution box is about 200 feet.

any other suggestions are welcome
