Try as I might, my parents and my uncle will not give up their AOL e-mail, so I am stuck trying to figure this out:

My uncle's address is a sub-account to my parents master account. Is there a way to split off my uncle's address to its own AOL account?

My Google-fu has failed.

I split my email address from my parents' AOL account back in 1998. I remember that it had to be done from within the actual AOL program (which my parents still use). The option is/was probably somewhere in the account management settings.

I don't see that available on the website. No one involved has the software installed (Does AOL even issue software anymore?).

The account I use for iChat is my AIM login. I have had that AOL login since, I believe, at least 1990 (I remember having it definitely in 1991 and I may have had it earlier).

So I could not find any way to split off sub-sccounts. The only thing I saw was a way to delete them, but, I think you lose them forever when you do that.

G-d, AOL sux.

I am co-counsel with a VERY large law firm. The opposing party has been through a revolving door of solo-practitioners. The latest one recently sent his first e-mail of the case. His address is <firstnamelastname>@aol.com.

One of the attorneys from my co-counsel firm sent an e-mail (just to defense counsel) including the following classic line:

"We will want to make sure his getting crushed by real law firms with real email addresses is as educational as possible."
