We've got a surprise demo this morning as the action-racing game Split/Second careens on to Xbox Live. Disney Interactive and Black Rock Studios have mentioned previously that a demo was incoming but they were playing coy as to when it would be available. That time would be now for Xbox 360 owners. PS3 owners will have to wait until May 11 to take the game for a test drive.

The Split/Second demo weighs in a 808 MB and features the Airport Terminal track wired explosives and other traps placed along the course. Gamers play as stunt drivers in a reality TV show and build up their Powerplay meter to trigger events such toppling an air traffic control tower and crashing a cargo plane on to the course to take out opponents and create shortcuts.

Split/Second releases on May 18 to the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

downloaded it,.. but forgot to try it. From reading this, sounds like multiplayer Stuntman.. which would be cool if it was a bit easier then the stuntman games are. I can never hit my "marks"

It's just a small taste but I thought it was fun. Too bad it's not a multiplayer demo.

The demo didn't really do anything for me at all. The racing was pretty bland, the effects and explosions were kind of cool I guess, and there just doesn't seem to be much to the game.
I'd honestly probably go back and play Burnout Paradise again.

Ya know, I sort of felt the same way. Racing was very "meh," effects were neat (guy being wrecked by a crach landing airplane was pretty cool) but the demo didn't really do much for me. I'm hoping it's just too small a taste of the game in the demo to appreciate it but I'll probably wait to rent it at the most.
