Not that I'd contribute, but it's a suggestion inspired by the OT sticky. :)

I'll put $50 into the pool.
I'll match that. no idea why they haven't done this yet, even after 2.5 years.

IMO it boils down to the laziness (or stubbornness) of the admins. :(

Didn't you read LoKe's post from the mod account? He could've easily made it for us, but he didn't have the time. I still support this, but we'll probably need the OT effect to get it going.

No, it said only the admin could do it, not the mod account which makes sense. Besides, anand's gotta say 'go for it', and he is looking into it.

Agreed...we really need it. If it's volunteers that is stopping the split, sign me up.

I may have said something like this way back, but who remembers in a thread this old. :p

Not that I don't sympathize with you guys, but whenever I go to the software forum, I notice that there are at least 2 days worth of threads visible. (my preferences are set up to show 100 threads/posts per page.) What difference would it make to have a separate thread? It's not as though things fall off the first page quickly... Is it just a status sort of thing?

Personally, I avoid that section because I don't want to sift through gaming threads in order to offer assistance. I believe that if there were a dedicated forum, it would be easier and more efficient to help others.

I haven't been on AT much in years and I can't believe this thread is still going.

It's a nice idea, but I think I have to agree with n0c (hey, long time no see!) that it just doesn't really fit. Anandtech is a hardware site. There are MUCH better places to discuss programming -- you know, places where there are actually programmers, not hardware junkies. And if you're just looking for an answer to a question, learn to search the internet better. If you can't do that, you're never going to make it as a programmer anyway.

Such patience! You guys could have programmed a new forum software and created your own Programming forum by now! I'll bet the lines of code would have been less than the lines of posts in here!

An example of such a programmers' forum: MSDN, except it has the big problem that it's limited to Microsoft's products.
