I'm running this game in 1280-1024 with the latest nvidia drivers and it runs so slow,i have the latest patch and my hardware is 2100xp processor 512ddr twinmoss 3200 abit nf7 soundblaster live geforce4 ti 4200 128ddr.Does anybody have this problem,my old system(1ghz athlon) ran just as quick.

It's a very video card intensive game... especially when there are alot of light sources it slows down big time. Not a whole lot you can do. It runs so so on my GeForce 4400... but in areas with quite a few light sources it can kick down to below 10FPS.

It runs like a pig on the PC. It brings even top-of-the-line rigs to their knees at moderate settings (1024 w/ max details, no AA or AF). I'd download the demo before you buy; you might be very disappointed otherwise.

I thought this game was kick-arse. Beating it was great. One of the best games I ever played.

My system was nothing to speak of. Got a 1.4 celery on a BX board running 512 ram with a GF3TI200 then GF4TI4200 and I thought gameplay was smooth. I ran it at 1280x768 without all the details way up. It was a blast.

I reloaded quite often but that was half the fun. 😉

Best blind buy I ever did.

Well, the Xbox version was locked at 30 FPS. In my machine (1600+ and Ti4200) I can squeeze a fairly steady 30 (usually higher) in 10x7 and every detail maxed out and no AF or AA. I hear the 1.1 patch also increases performance considerably. I'm about to upgrade my rig so I'm gonna buy the game aswell. Probably get about 40-60 with the new rig wich is plenty enough in this fairly slow game.

It's a great game for sure. It's mainly the lighting effects that kill the framerate, walk by a set of blinds with light shinning through and its like a slide show.

The Gamecube version that released today is looking VERY strong according to IGN's review!

I REALLY REALLY want to get a Gamecube, and will probably break down for one this week. I want Splinter Cell, Zelda, Metroid Prime, and The Sims.

Plus now I can hook up my New GBA SP up to use in Splinter Cell.

I found a hookup at a game store (this guy is manager) and he can get me a new GCN for around $50 using his discount... 🙂

There are a few minor changes for the Cube version because the hardware is slightly less strong than Xbox, so theres some lighting and environmental tweaks, but it looks gorgeous just as well!

cant wait to get a GCN and this game!

i run fine at 1024x768, max details, performance 2x AA and moderate AF. the oil rig level sure ran like a pig, though.

the 1.1 patch helped a lot for me.

I'm not having any problems playing at 1024 max everything with my 9500Pro. Sure, I'd like to hit 1280, but it looks great and runs great where I am now. I'll probably throw in 2xAA later on and see how that runs. I imagine it will still be fine. Tons of fun so far for sure. I'd recommend it if you've got a fairly modern PC.

Anyone know if this game is smooth with medium to high detail at 1600x1200 with a 9700 PRO (assuming other hardware is adequate)?

I'm used to playing RTCW and Ghost Recon at 1600x1200 with my GF3 Ti200 (Athelon 2200, 512 MB RAM) and have been spoiled. I can marginally run SC at 1024x768, although 800x600 is much smoother. I'm trying to decide whether to upgrade now to a 9700 PRO or wait another few months until something new comes along that can also display Doom III at high-res.

Any advice would be appreciated!

I had no problems playing the whole game with my 9500 128 and a 2.32Ghz P4 at 1280x1024.

What detail levels, lighting and AA and AF settings? You might not have had a problem with the performance level, but I like to run max game settings with 2x AA and 16x performance AF with PC games, and I have the XBox version that runs smooth as silk. I turned off AA and AF and performance was improved, but still quite poor, particularly in outdoor settings. Without AA and AF SC looks no better than on my bros OC'd Ti4200 rig, and offers similar performance (as SC was originally designed around the GF3 core).

I just run the game at 1280x1024 with max everything except AA. Its very smooth.
I need to try using AA after I get that patch.

my system is a 2.53ghz oc to 2.63 with a AIW 9700 pro

The game is hungry on system resources; I played the game at 1600*1200*32 full detail and 2xAA /2 Aniso (if I recall it right, it's been a few months), frame rates were acceptable most of the time (30-60 or somewhere in that range), except a few scenes with overwhelming illumination effects (like rays of sun going through windows blinds and moving, with dust particles in the air) - there the frames would go possibly under 10... but these moments were rather rare and the game played fine most of the time... I think it's been the most hardware-demanding game I played.

I'm having a strange problem with the game - even at 800x600, when I move my mouse (logi MX500, MW9.76) quickly in a circle, the room spins smoothly around Sam for about one rotation, then the scene skips and seems to reset itself. Is this part of the program - i.e. the camera resets after returning to a certain position, or am I having some real lag here? I'm thinking it's lag because I also have the problem on the menu screens. If I quickly move the mouse on the menus, the pointer tracks for awhile and then freezes - and then jumps to the new position after 1/2 second or so (along with a slight pop in the audio). This only happens in SC - not in any other application or game. Am I missing something or do I just lack the juice to get full-time smoothness out of this resource-intensive game?

My machine is:
Epox 8K5A3+ Mobo
2200+ Athelon XP
512 MB Samsung PC2700
MSI GeForce 3 Ti 200 VIVO
Pinnacle DV200 Firewire card
SB Live! 5.1
WD 120 GB HD w/ 8 mb cache
Lite-On 40/12/48 CD-RW
Win 2K SP3
Logi MX500 optical mouse
Case: Kingwin KT-436
PSU: Enermax Whisper EG365P-VE(FC) 350W

I did install DX9 and the latest nvidia det and soundblaster drivers.

One other thing - the EAX option on the SC audio settings is for EAX HD. I know my SB Live! 5.1 supports EAX, but I didn't see anything in the documentation about HD - is that only on Audigy and above? Twice I've gotten a horrible, loud static sound that doesn't stop until I close the game, but for the most part it sounds fine. Should I disable EAX HD in the settings?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Edited to fix mistatement.

I run it on my AthlonXP 1700 and Geforce 3 Ti 500 @ 1024 x 768 with details all up. I really never had much of a problem with slowdown whatsoever.

Exactly. 🙂

Hey, you are in luck! To try and get back into the game, Nintendo is introducing a new bundle package which gives you a choice of an extra game from a 4 game selection. I know the Zelda, Metroid Prime and 2 other game are games that you can choose from. So for $149 you get the GameCube plus a bad ass game. Then you can buy SplinterCell one your own. Not bad for <$200.
