Splinter Cell Settings

Hey there. I just recently purchased splinter cell and im havin one hell of a time playin. I was just curious about certain things. I am in possession of a 9500pro rite now (not mine, borrowed from a friend,) and i play with different settings. First off, i have no AA or AF enabled (I will so later on today though.) I play at a resolution of 1024x768 (my monitor is only 15in,) and when i put the settings to everything high (the effects setting at very high,) it played very well. I was just curious, so i then set all the settings to medium and played that as well. I didn't notice much difference at all. Seemed to move a bit faster, but still, why does the medium settings look almost just as well as the high settings (to me at least,)? Dont worry, i will enable AA and AF later on when i get home, but for now, can anyone explain to me the medium and high detail settings? Thanks

Don't bother trying to play it through with FSAA enabled. Splinter Cell currently has an issue with lights and FSAA; lights show up through walls, and when you get a lot of lights it's quite distracting. I played the game through at 1280x1024 with everything maxed out on a P4 1.6A and Radeon 9500 Pro, and I only remember two times where there were slowdowns, both times the scene had many lights (one through a little walkway with light streaming from above, and the second on top of a crane with lighted buildings all around and a downpour of rain).

It's a very impressive game graphically, the plot is very well written, and the voice acting is excellent as well. It's an all around great game, and a certain early candidate for 2003 game of the year.
