Hi
I have played Splinter Cell 1 when it came out on my old GF4 MX 440, and it looked good, that was a year ago, now I just bought Splinter Cell PT and installed it, and I am very disappointed with its graphics, the graphics look WAY too bad! I mean, look at the shadows! The low res textures! And there's a stupid problem with Heat Vision, when I turn it on I see a chess table in front of me wherever I look! (That's right!) It stays at the same distance all the time, which is extremely annoying when using heat vision!
I have attached some pics showing the bad graphics of the game:
Chess table!
Another Chess Table!
And Here's Another One!
And here's one too!
Wow, so many chess tables!
That's the last of'em
Other Effects:
On The Wall
Look at his hands!
Bad Underwater Graphics!
Is this supposed to be a shadow!!! Please say no
Nice!
Tough Guy!
Even Better!
OMG! I hate these low res textures!
Nice Particles!
Hmm (a shadow an a wall)
Hmm Hmm
More low res textures!

So, am I the only one having these terrible graphics? Is it my drivers? Or a bug in Windows or what?
What do you say?

Well the game was designed for the Xbox first then ported. That could be the reason. Things will be different for SC3.

Comments? Bump!

edit: ahh, we posted at the same time so I didn't see your post, as for what you said, aren't X-Box graphics nice? Are they that bad? I heard that nVidia cards have better shadows in this game than ATI's, is that true?

....duh...you're using a GF4 MX440...I *had* the same card - I know your pain. It can't do pixel shading and only supports DX7.1...THAT is probably why. The only reason why I liked that card was that it could be OCed all to hell.

...that and by those pictures it looks like you're running in 320*240 with no details.

Agreed. The game looked good on both of my systems... But, ever since Far Cry, it's hard to say what's good and what isn't :)...

It looks to me like your softmod is failing (checkerboards) and Catalyst drivers have(had?) an issue with shadows in Splinter Cell.

I am using a softmodded 9800SE right now, not a GF4 MX ( that was 1 year a go).
Anyway, my 9800SE has been softmodded successfully because every game runs fast with no graphical issues (FarCry, Panikiller, Armed and Dangerous 3D Mark 2k3) using Omega drivers based on 4.7 Cats.
And the resolution was 1024x768 but I had to decrease the quality of the pics (using ACDsee) to make them smaller, cuz I have a Dial-up connection so I can't upload big files (takes hours).
The thing that annoyes me the most is that Chess table I see whenever I use Heat Vision
