Splinter Cell: Double Agent Screenshots With High Detail Shaders On vs Off?

Hello, I just got DA, and have been having a blast playing it, not encountering most of the problems people have been getting here. One thing is that I had to turn off High Detail shaders because the 8800GTX fizzes with them on and screws up the game. Can anyone post defining screenshots with High Detail Shaders on and off with a working card so that I and others can see what we're missing?

Thanks!

I wish I could see the difference also. I have to turn it off also to stop the game from crashing.

Can you? Don't you have an 8800GTS?

I have the game ordered, it won't arrive until 2 weeks or so and then I can do some tests hopefully (and hopefully by then theres a fix for the 8800s :p). But detailed shaders make such a difference from what I saw in your screenshots :) .

QFT. I was amazed that they made that much of an impact on IQ. Hopefully a fix comes soon so that the G80 can run this game "TWIMTBP" since performance would be better on it.

I'm just glad akshayt hasn't got this game yet because he would surely make a thread about how the performance is bad on it. I pretty much have to get rid of Vsync and even then it can get pretty low. Not to mention how ATi's Adaptive AA is broken on this game. I really wish either ATi would fix AAA or Nvidia fix their High Detail Shader bug.

So, does AA+HDR work in any form on your card?
Yes.

I have to experiment with the 1.02 patch since I just updated to it today, but I've been using the default CAT. A.I. with application controlled AA and it has worked fine. Yet it used to be that if I Disabled CAT A.I. and forced AA through the driver control panel (both CCC and ATT) it would cause massive rendering errors. I'll have to check to see if that is still the case with the 1.02 patch.

Yeah. Hey, I was wondering, if it wouldn't be too much of a hassle. Could you do Shader comparisons between a few different levels of the game, like Okhotsk, the Cozumel ship, and the African level?

EDIT: Wait a second, am I looking at the same area in your posted screenshots? It seems like High detail shaders actually ADD dynamic lights to the world, in that the visibility indicator actually says you're exposed in that screenshot, while the other one acts as if there wasn't a light at all. Damn, I really hope NVIDIA/Ubi release a fix, it really is a fine game, one of the better Splinter Cells.

On an unrelated note, I'm going to try AA+HDR through the game and see how that turns out...

Doesn;t work...

Sure thing, just give me a little while. I've been moving into a house while helping family members move out at the same time--God, you never realize how much crap you have until you start moving. Plus, the holidays and working in between puts a cramp on spare time. I'll get them up as soon as I can though.

Yep. High Detail Shader adds a lot of visual eye candy. It isn't free though.

QFT. I love the storyline / emotion-based plot. It really is well done.

As far as looks, it is the best looking SC yet. I need to install xtknight's gamma screenshot program to see if that can take more accurate screens because the game really does look tons better than the screenshots I've been able to capture. They just don't do it justice. It really is one of the best looking games I've ever seen, even without Adaptive AA.

Really? Did you force AA through the game or the driver control panel? I've only been able to get it to go through the game, even with the 1.02 patch.

With the 1.01 patch the AA option is greyed out with HDR on for me. When I try to force AA through the drivers there are lots of graphical errors.

I love my 8800GTS.
Got a great overclock on it too.

Yeah, same here. Kinda frustrating when you put down $600 for a vid card... :disgust:

Wow, holy crap :Q what a difference between those two shots, they look like they are from two different games.

Hey josh what res are you playing at and are the frames even close to decent with high detail shaders on (I saw above you said they get sort of low)?

I'm thinking of picking this game up, but if I can not turn on those shaders on my 1900XT (with playable frames) then I may just wait until I can get an R600.

What!? Even with a G80? When I had the 1.01 patch the HDR wasn't disabled for me. I turned on HDR and 4xAA through the game's menu and they worked fine.

1680x1050 | Max in-game settings (HDR+4xAA) | Vsync+Triple Buffering OFF | 16xHQAF

Frames can get down to 15. Sometimes (and ir really happens under ice, under water) it can get down to a halting 8 frames per second - doesn't happen much though.

The performance could definitely be better. That's why I'm hoping either G80 gets its stuff together, ATi to release a better capable card, or ATi to release some God-given driver that will allow better performance on my current card. Either way though I'm getting through the game alright. Depending on how you play the game can be really slow and sneaky so high frames aren't exactly a necessity.

Nightmare, I'll work on getting you some more comparible screens later tonight.

edit: spelling

Yep. Even with G80. Apparently Ubisoft doesn't know of the existence of G80 cards(OR NVidia doesn't know what HDR+AA is...I haven't figured out which it is.:( )....even though it's a TWIMTBP game.

What do you mean?

Just what I said man, it wouldn't let me reassign the left mouse button and right mouse button. So I was forced to use the WASD control which I absolutely hate. I usually use the RMB for walking which I couldn't do for this game (but I was able to with other SC games from what I remember). I'll just rent it on my 360 instead and now that I ordered the kb/mouse adapter for the 360 I really have no reason to get any PC games for a long time (until Quake Wars anyway).

After playing through this, I must say, this is the best Splinter Cell game in terms of story and gameplay. In terms of graphics, I'm angry that I'm missing so much, but I had enough settings on to see an improvement over Chaos Theory.

It really is amazing, waht Ubi managed to do with the Unreal 2.5 tech. Their next one, Splinter Cell: Conviction, will be using Unreal Engine 3. And if Gears of War and Rainbow Six are any indication... :Q

Bump. Anyone want to post more comparisons. I'm partically interested in the Kinshasa level after playing it on a friend's 360, it just looked beautiful on it, totally killed what my 8800 was pumping out.

Sorry Nightmare, I'll get some more screens up soon. I've been using xtknights screenshot capture utility and trying to make good save points for easy screenshot comparisons. Not to mention the game is still buggy with a lot of things and making too many changes to the display settings can be problematic. It just takes a little longer to do multiple comparisons with different settings, but I'm working on it. PM me for details if you need more info.
