I just tried to run Splinter Cell Conviction with my 5750 (no overclock ) and the game was tearing ,missing parts of the graphics, and had bad menu problems.

I googled the problem and one of the solutions was to use the 10.4 perview drivers or hotfix.

Well I downloaded them and they won't even install right. It just says driver had installation problems Tried it 2 times.

Should I have unistalled my 10.3 's first?
I never had to do this before, I just installed the new drives and it always worked fine.

Any suggestions?

I've always uninstalled old drivers before installing new ones - regardless of whether they're Nvidia or ATI.

I've seen other reports of the missing menu problem (on a nvidia card), so it's not just you. All you can do is hope that Ubi figure it out and patch it.

I can get to the game then use the options to change settings but its missing graphics ,tearing and overall just screwed up bad.

I'll just have to wait for a patch I guess.

I bet you the draconian DRM works great though . It's amazing what's taking priority these days.

As others mentioned, completely uninstall the AMD drivers (they give you an option to uninstall all ATI software), reboot, then install the hotfixes. Like others said though, it very well could be the game's problem and you'll have to wait for a patch. Is there are a way to switch which DX version you're using? That sometimes can be a fix in the meantime.

$60 for a buggy console port with extra strength DRM. I skip all Ubisoft titles since they did that.

But on topic there are plenty of threads that it runs bad on anything less than an i7 and SLI/XFire. I believe the game uses Unreal 2 engine also. Inexcusable.

the last splinter cell game was the last game I ever bought by ubisoft. Paid $50 for a console port that was never fixed and I was unable to ever play the game. That was with 8800 gtx at the time (newest card) and they put the 8800 gtx on hardware that was unsupported and claimed it was heat related.

I thought the new 10.4 drivers solved the problem? I was reading about it in the PC gaming section in our forums, thats why I grabbed the game.

@MRK6 ,I did finally get the newest driver to install after unistalling the old ones, but it still is really screwed up. Must be the game.

The other 25 games on my drive work fine. :)

Why is it every single game that's ported to a PC from a console is buggy according to PC gamers? This notion of consantly throwing around terms like "crappy console ports" is getting tiresome since the very same games sell millions of copies on consoles and look worse. For example, when Crysis 2 comes out, are you going to call it a crappy console port too?

The problem with SC: Conviction is that it's too short.

Is the OP like an nvidia fanboy in disguise? I've just been browsing the forums and it seems like every topic either promoting the 'greatness' of fermi in some way or another or bashing ATI is made by this dude

Anyways it's not just an ATI driver issue, its happening on Nvidia cards too.
And pretty sure Madcatatlas was being sarcastic for those of you who didn't get it..

Yes, he/she is. The best part is that he/she has an ati 5750 to hide behind if people start pointing fingers. It would be nice if the OP would simply buy an nvidia card, come out of the fanboy closet and stop stealth trolling.

Well when you look at games like Gears of War, GTA4, Mass effect 1 and a few other you can't blame them, but there were some super stable console ports though. RE5, Devil may cry4, SF4, burnout paradise.

Because the heavy performance demand on the computer is not worth the "meh" visuals rendered on the screen in many of these titles. Furthermore, if the game is glitching like crazy, that is a "crappy console port." A finished product doesn't crash and glitch.

Also, because something "sells millions" doesn't mean it's any indication of its quality or worth, although it's a commonly used fallacy. Did you stock up on Britney Spears and Backstreet Boy albums because they sold millions?

must be the ATi card, definetly not the "just out the door" video game.

Hell, if i were you happemedium, id just return the cards, demand my money back and go for a NVIDIA GTX 440. Prices for this card are here: http://cdn.okcimg.com/php/load_okc_image.php/images/1x1/500x1000/0x0/0x0/0/16891724049956885444

Lol! Seems to me this is the best answer yet here!!

Did you guys bother to check the link he provided?! ;P

BTW I totally agree with this post, there's too much bs around here.

I have to agree with previous poster about console ports not been optimized for pc. I mean several games I love to play are all console ports but why don't they spend the time and make the menus more fitting for use on pc, it seems not a huge drag on resources for them to put in more pc friendly navigations etc. but many feels like I need a pad to get around the game. but it's mostly decent and one plus for console ports is that their cpu requirements tends to be lower.

Game runs fine on two of my systems, 5870 and 4890 in sig with 10.4s

Try disabling stuff like fraps, AV, etc.. and running the game.

Back the OC off your gpu as well see if that helps.
