Splicing USB cable with PS/2 Power?

Anyone have experience with this?...I recently bought a USB 2.5" Drive Enclosure. It comes with USB Cable and Power Cable (that feeds off the PS/2 port).

Unfortunately there was a little false hope that the enclosure would be able to get power from the USB port.

So now I'm thinking about taking the power leads from the USB cable and splicing them into the PS/2 cable...Thereby I only need to use the one USB cable to get juice.

I tired google'ing this topic, but really only found cables for power a Gameboy from USB.

Thanks for any help or links!

i would imagine that they would have done that from the factory if possible.

i have an external HD that feeds off 2 USB ports, one for power and one for data. i also have the option of plugging it into the ps/2 port.

it came with a USB to PS/2 adapter.

Well, now I've got a definite answer.

I looked up the specs of the HD I'm using and indeed the requirements are more than the USB can handle on its' own, hence NEEDING the juice from PS/2.

I had thought the enclosure was getting power SOLELY from PS/2, but in truth it was TRYING to get juice from USB but couldn't get enough and hence needed the additional influx from PS/2...You've got it right Savij.

I like the idea of leeching power from USB, rather than PS/2, as you mentioned PlatinumGold. So I guess I can still put my splicing skills to work and make my enclosure pull juice from a spliced USB/power cable.

Thanks for all the replies folks.
