I have cut the heads off 2 ethernet cords and these are the colors of the 8 wires inside...

Wire 1:
brown, brown/white, orange, orange/white, purple, purple/white, green, green/white

Wire 2:
black, white, blue, light blue, green, light green, orange, lavender

What colors do I splice together????

Um...are you sure the second wire is a regular ethernet CAT5 cable? Because CAT5 cables don't have those colors...and why do you need to splice them for?

well... I don't know if they are both standard CAT5 cables, but they both work fine on my 10BASE home-network. I guess I'll just have to figure this out by trial and error...

SF,
Unless it's a crossover cable it won't matter what the actual colors are. Just make sure that they are all the same connections on both ends. (ie: the connections on all pins on one connector match the connections on the pins on the other connector.) Most twisted pair drops are straight through... The color code is just a standard that is commonly used. Of course keeping the pairs together has some effect on emi(noise) on the cable but keeping the pairs together doesn't require much effort. Hope that all make sense... I really need some zzzz's!

even if it was a crossover, the colors wouldnt matter as long as the 1-3 2-6 pairs were swapped.

hell, ever cat5 cable I make I only use 4 wires, since thats all you need. I use for a straight thru -

Pin 1 - White/Orange
Pin 2 - Orange
Pin 3 - White/Blue
Pin 6 - Blue
