I've got a new build in an Antec P180b. I love the case, but the 120mm fans at the rear and especially on top, are a little loud. It's actually pretty darn quiet but I'd like to improve it a bit by replacing those two Tri-cool fans with Noctua NF-S12's

Can I cut the wires and splice the new fans in so I can still use the switches from the Tri-cools? They go med, or high, and are mounted on the back of the case.

They're convenient and I'd like to keep them (the switches)

no, sorry, but the tricool switches do not use standard controlling methods to change the fan speed. there's a little controller on the tricool fan itself that the switch changes. so the answer is no.

Well, thanks for the info....I appreciate it. Wouldn't want to hack up the wires for nothing

if you felt really inventive, adventurous, and probably bored, then you can try building your own version of the chip. there are 3 leads from the switch so if you go in with a multimeter, you could prove me wrong and i would stand corrected. it may be that there are two different voltage leads and then the return lead so as to modify voltage to the fan. you could in turn create a larger version of the controller using voltage regulators. or i could just be full of crap. i don't know. i guess i should pull a TriCool apart tonight.

Well, probably not that adventurous. The fans come with a voltage reducer thing and I'll probably just use that,
