Spirited Away DVD comes out tommorow!

Yeah... I'll finally be able to see it with decent sound. The theater I saw it at had crappy, crappy sound. Not to mention a kid that would NOT shut up!

I am not an anime fan by any means, I've watched (completely) Neon Genesis Evangelion, Record of Lodoss Wars, and Oh! My Goddess and liked them I think. Does Spirited Away offer a viewing experience that even people like me will like? I am pretty open minded and will give credit where its due. Uhhh what I am really asking is: Is the dvd worth the $18 at BestBuy?

Well, it did win an oscar for best animated picture, so I suppose it has something going for it.

I am not the person to answer this question because I am completely biased towards anime.. why not just rent it?

Asking if you'd like Spirited Away because it's anime and you've seen the above series is sort of like asking if you'd like the movie Heathers because it's a comedy and you like Everybody Loves Raymond.

Spirited Away is the story of a young girl who gets lost in a world of magic and spirits (the easiest comparison, although probably not the most accurate one, is The Wizard of Oz). The characters are vivid and appealing (although I find Daveigh Chase's delivery to be somewhat too shrill), the storyline is fantastic (in the sense of the word that means suffused with fantasy), and the artwork, particularly the backgrounds, are utterly beautiful.

If you're really on the fence about whether buying the DVD is worthwhile, shell out $5 for a matinee at your local theatre and see if you like it.
