They're looking for how a certain magnetic molecule shapes in 3D space at a certain temperature. They use the Monte Carlo routine, a random number generating mechanism - same is used by QMC. The spin dynamics they talk about is in what direction, with what speed and what torque that molecule will spin at a certain temperature.

The gfx have basically nothing to do with the real science that is done, they're just for show. The whole project was done as a master thesis and the gfx were not part of the thesis, so it's just a bonus.
