I have been having back pains and after a recent visit to a chiropractor for a free consultation, she made me aware that my back isn't straight and I need help... I was wondering if anybody has ever had "spinal decompression" done... a local chiropractor is offereing the treatment and was wondering if it was worth it... im googling too ;)

Personal opinion: most chiropractors are nothing more than sales people with a bit of anatomy schooling who's job is to keep you coming back to them for expensive "treatments".

I have seriously thought about going to a chiropractor and even possibly having a spinal decompression done but I am scared of chiropractors for two reasons. First, I am afraid it will hurt but mostly I am afraid the effects will be so wonderful, I will become addicted and want to keep going.

Is Spinal Decompression the same as hanging upside down?

I have gone to chiropctors for muscle related issues and found that the physical theroapy they offer to be very helpful. But I have not gotten much from being adjusted.

Gee that's kinda like going to a barber and asking if you need a haircut, no?

Chiro's aren't docs for a reason... Personally I think chiropractics is nothing more than a glorified massage with some popping of the joints involved.

Who's back is straight? Did they even take an x-ray or just look at you and go "yep your back isn't straight"?

I went once because my ex talked me into it. I told them the right side of my back hurt when in fact it was my left. They hooked up these electrodes and did some stupid test with a fancy name.

Get this, the chiro guy came back in and said, your upper right back must be killing you because your so and so levels from the tests are off the charts, we've never seen anything like this.

I thanked him for his time and told him I was late for an appt., and that I'd be back tomorrow. I never went back and neither did my ex after I proved to her the guy was a fraud.

Just like everyone else... Its a matter of how bad it is, and they test for really bad curved backs in elementary school (at least they did ~20 years ago).

If you truely have a bad spinal curve it's not something that can be corrected by "adjustments". Go see someone a doctor.
