Spilled wine on laptop

Customer spilled wine on her laptop. Wants to know if it can be salvaged? I haven't looked at it yet. I am not sure what I would do if I did. I would guess that she is SOL, but is there some steps that could clean the wine off of the mobo? I read somewhere on AT about using distilled water and then letting it dry. Anywho, just trying to learn. Any ideas? tia 🙂

The wine or the laptop? Sorry! I couldn't resist. 🙂

All you can do is dry it and try it. Wine has sugar in it, and as it dries, it leaves a residue, and that can be untold problems inthe keyboard. The distilled water would be to dissolve and rinse the sugar - but that really requires detailed disassembly. The mobo itself can be washed - but getting it out is a major operation. It certainly is worth a try.

I really grieve for the lost wine! 🙂

Haha, I spilled a full glass of red wine on a Dell laptop years ago (it had a Celeron 600mhz cpu in it, if that gives an idea how long ago). I completely disassembled it & used a combination of distilled water & rubbing alcohol to clean it off. This took a long, long time, but considering I didn't have the money to replace the laptop... The only thing I ended up replacing was the keyboard, basically because the replacement wasn't too expensive and I got real tired of trying to clean it up (wasn't worth the enormous amount of time).

Good luck!
