I knocked a glass of water over onto my laptop and everything seemed to be fine, but now the 'p' button has stopped working (luckily I have a desktop PC too). Anybody have any ideas of ways to fix it, copying and pasting every time i need a 'p' on my laptop just isn't gonna work for long.

you turned it off and let it dry out right? if not... well your not too smart. but if you did you should be able to just take it apart and clean it out. may be some corrosion from the water. if you did leave it on you will have to replace the keyboard becuase it probalby shorted out, consider yourself lucky that you did not fry the MB also.

If you can remove the keycap for the non-working key, you may be able to spray some contact cleaner into the switch. Do this while continuously pushing the actuator of the switch.

If you don't have any contact cleaner, and it's so fubared that it's already a loss, you can try using WD-40. Use a very light touch on the spray valve, keep a Q-tip close to it to block any excess spray, and use the extender tube to get it only in the switch.

I've fixed many failing and near failing keyswitches this way, but it's always a toss of the dice.

Good luck. :)

Haha, yeah, I turned it off and let it dry out. I'll have to try out your suggestion Harvey, if that doesn't work I'm glad to hear you can find replacements for cheap.

Use a fan and maybe compressed air to make sure you get all the water out, and it's completely dry. Maybe a good hair drier on blow only no heat.

I'll assume it's already unplugged with the battery removed.

Umm... That's one out of two. If you can't clean the contacts, it's somewhere between very difficult and impossible to replace a keyswitch on the keyboard assembly, and replacing the whole assembly is usually pretty expensive, just because the manufacturer will probably charge a lot for it. You'll have to check with your local repair facility.
