Spilled water on keyboard, desktop won't start now

So last night just as I was going to bed, I was putting my PC to sleep and accidentally knocked over my glass of water onto my keyboard. The tower started making a lot of noise and wouldn't turn off. The only thing I could do was hold the power button for a while (longer than normal, maybe 20+ seconds) to get it to shut off.

I just went straight to bed, but today after work it just won't start. It powers up like normal for a few seconds, but the hard drive doesn't spin up. The lights stay on and everything else seems normal, but nothing happens, until I hold the power button again.

It was nearing the end of going to sleep when I spilled the water, and as soon as it happened the tower started making a lot of noise. Could spilling water on a USB keyboard do damage to the tower? Or was it bad timing, spilling it as it was going to sleep?

Specs:
P5k deluxe
Q6600 stock
Gtx 460
Win 7
Corsair hx620 (could it be my psu?)

Maybe some water got into the USB connection and shorted something. But that would be worse case. Can you give more detail about the noise you heard. Try booting it without the keyboard (or a different keyboard plugged in. If that doesn't work, try a bios reset. If you plug that keyboard into another machine, does it still work?

The only things that got wet were the keyboard and my desk. I've been trying to start it without the keyboard plugged in, because I was afraid it wasn't completely dry, but I just tried it in another machine and it works fine.

Sorry I can't be much more specific on the sound, I was fairly high at the time. It sounded like the computer just sped up, like it was working really hard. I have an old noisy hard drive as a secondary, it could have been it spinning, and maybe my optical drive which I never hear anymore. The best way I could put it is that it sounded like everything just went to 100%.

When I power it on, everything seems to go fine for about 5 seconds, then the hard drive light turns off and nothing happens until I turn it off again. My monitor displays nothing, doesn't even leave sleep.

I would try swapping my drives, since the old one still has a windows install, but I need to access the bios for that eh?

OK, glad to hear the keyboard is ok (they are pretty spill-resistant anyway. It's probably time to start unplugging things. Unplug the hard drives and optical drives (maybe even external devices) and see if you can get to the boot screen.

Well, I'm an idiot.

All I had to do was flip the psu power switch off/on. It seems when I hold the power button to force the pc to turn off, I need to flip that switch. I've tried it a couple more times and I've had to do it each time.

Anyway, you can forget this thread ever existed. :whiste:

I used to be good with this kind of stuff...

The keyboard is a cheap $10 Dynex that I don't really like, so I was never really worried about it, but I don't have the money to replace any more expensive parts.

It's funny because I've been debating getting rid of this pc lately, and was thinking this would be the deciding factor. I waste too much time on it and it would probably be the best thing that happened to me.

Oh well, back to my old habits.

Thanks for your help man.
