Spilled water into my receiver :(

Well, crap.

I accidentily knocked over a cup of water on my desk and a majority of it went into my receiver. I don't remember if it was on or off but I'm pretty sure it was on. I yanked the cord out and flipped it upside down and tried to wipe the rest of the water off. It doesn't smell like burned silicon like a CPU or anything but there's a weird smell. Albeit, I've never smelled my receiver before, so I'm not sure what to expect.

Do I plug it back in to see if it's operational?
Do I let it sit for a while upside hoping it will dry and then try to plug it back in?
Do I attempt to take the cover off and see if there's any water on there?

I've never gotten any water into electronics before so I'm not sure what to do. 🙁 I really didn't need another expense this summer because I'm saving up to buy a car. It's only an AIWA AV-D58 so it's not really expensive but it cost me $190 a couple of years ago. Oh well, I'm just kinda disappointed. It can be replaced but it's a downer for my finals week 🙁

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Yup. i would say leave it alone in a hot, dry environment for a few days, then try it (after opening it and drying the insides)

Get a cool hairdryer or fast fan on it asap and leave it flowing for a few hours- the longer a component is wet the worse it will be.

most electronic components are ALWAYS ON. pressing power just wakes up some compoenents.
leave it unplugged
what i would do now is go get some acetone, spray some areas with it, and let it drip off to remove some excess solutes that were in the water. then use the hair dryer to hurry the drying of the acetone. do so in a very well ventillated area of course.

and you ahve to take it all apart.

Thanks guys. I'll leave it until I go home on Wednesday and then I'll try that acetone bit.

I guess this forces me to study instead of listening to any music hehe.
