Spilled some water on my keyboard...dead?

It's an old MS Ergo 4000...some keys work, some (most) don't. Should I try ripping the keys off and wiping stuff down or is it likely unsalvageable?

Clean out what you can, let it fully dry (could be several days), and then give it a go.

If it doesn't work after that, you have your answer. At least it was just a keyboard and not your PC.

I've had two recent keyboard spills. One Mt. Dew on a Logitech MK320 (with drainage holes), and one (olive juice - don't ask) on a wired Logitech keyboard without drainage holes.

In both cases, I just ran the keyboards under tap water for like 5 minutes. (after removing batteries!)

I had to let them dry in my dish rack for a complete week though. After 3-4 days the wireless keyboard was still unusable.

Edit: After a week drying out, after being thoroughly rinsed, they both still work fine.

I have multiple Cherry keyboards. Had a friend visit and dump his beer on one of them. Many keys no longer worked. Freaked out for a bit. Did a little research. Took apart the keyboard and ran tap water over the electronics (unplugged of course). Shook it off. Used some compressed air to move any hidden water. Let it dry overnight. Reassembled the keyboard. Powered it on. Worked like brand new... and it was clean! Yay!

Hmmm, I guess I'll set it outside (it's been 90 in Michigan), should bake it pretty good after a few days.

don't ask

I knew I would find these two words somewhere on a thread about keyboard messes and spills. Anyway, I'm not sure how water can ever really harm a keyboard. It surely isnt going to harm the mechanical parts, and the electrical parts are such low power and the potential for shorts is so low that I cant imagine a keyboard not working perfectly fine once it is dry.

Flooded my Razer keyboard with lemonade. Let it dry out and it started working again. The Ctrl key sticks now and then, but it still works.

If you're ambitious, remove the keys...not difficult. open the rest...several screws. If it's just water, wipe dry, leave out to dry. Hair dryer on cool. or leaving in sunlight. Should be OK. It's fun getting the keys back in place. Also gives you the chance to clean out your snack debris.
