GTA IV still racks up Game of the Year despite being a media darling and somewhat of a disappointment to gamers.

Soul Calibur IV winning best fighting game just goes to show how far fighting games have fallen off.

Is it really fair for Rock Band 2 to be considered for Best Soundtrack?

Didn't watch it, but I mostly ignore the VGA's, there's so much money being pushed at Spike TV. Stick to gamer voted games, and I also enjoy Gamespot's (although I'm sure they have some of the same problems that the VGA's have).

Is it really fair for Rock Band 2 to be considered for Best Soundtrack?

I think its more of a personal preference..IMHO i like Guitar Hero WT track list better.

I think (and correct me if I'm wrong!) that his point was that it's not truly a "soundtrack" to a game if it's a music based game.

That's what I was thinking too and I don't think it should be. A soundtrack is typically filled with music that help do things such as set the mood, but if your game is based off music... it doesn't serve that purpose... it's the actual game.

yeah, this is why movie awards include best original soundtrack


there also needs to be an award for best art direction... MGS4 winning best graphics makes me cringe because that's most likely because most of that is from the non playable cut scenes. It is commendable that they have LittleBigPlanet in there, but it really seems out of place when we consider the ultra realistic approaches the other nominated games take, thus an art direction award

And all those non-playable cutscenes were rendered in real-time so it won. It really did have the best graphics and sound of any other game this year.

What was disappointing about GTA4 to gamers? I'm a bit surprised to see it get it's due because it was released so early in the year and a bit forgotten, but it is still the best game of the year IMO.

Despite the fact that the VGAs are still an absolute joke of a show, I almost entirely agree with their choices. Especially glad to see left 4 dead get some awards.

Also good to see boom blox beat out SSBB, although that's quite a difficult choice to make.

I only watched like a half hour of the first VGAs before I turned it off in disgust. All this flashy shit and ads would show up, they'd show you the team of guys who made the game or maybe just worked in a local chinese restaurant, for maybe 3 seconds while confetti or fireworks or some crap flew around and then they went straight to commercial again. If you were lucky, you'd have partially recovered from your strobe light induced seizure before the next bought and paid for award arrived to optically rape you anew. Worst awards show I ever saw, and thats saying a lot since awards shows are universally boring...I mean, they're essentially just a list of names doled out over the course of one to several hours.
