You mean the only movie to beat it while being out at the same time?

And?

Spider-man was a better movie and the only thing that probably matters to is George Lucas' ego. :)

I could be mistaken, happens often enough, but didn't Titanic outgross Episode 1?

Yup. That's why it's number one on that list by nearly double. ;)

Many people say they don't, but I think they're lying for the sake of being different. :)

The movie made $1.8 billion dollars worldwide. Someone had to like it.

Oh, I'm not doubting that a lot of people liked it. I'm sure many flocked to watch it multiple times.

But not me.

But it looks like E1 beat Spiderman. So.........

plus 4 out of 5 in the top 20. and 5 for 5 in the top 30. That's a tough act to follow.

yeah, well, titanic made almost 2x what the next movie, harry potter, did, and it was just a sappy 50s love story set on a doomed boat. big deal. LOTR is getting the shaft.

I have no problem saying I love Titanic. I think some people say it's not good because 1) they hate DiCaprio, 2) simple dialogues, and 3) they envy its success. I agree with the simple, less thoughtful dialogues in the movie, but the movie is really about the development of Kate Winslet's character trigged by DiCaprio's Jack Dawson (sadly, i remember his name).

Anyway, I hated both MIB and MIB2, but I'm sure a lot of people liked them for their silliness.

i'd also like to point out that the latest star wars films are only distributed by fox; they are technically independent films. so, as far as indy films go, these are doing really well :)

Okay, I'll admit. I watched Titanic... ONCE though... and part of it on TV. It will also admit that it was "pretty good" but no where near my top 10 list.

Not really sure what you mean by Fox is independent film distributer.... 20th Century Fox is a worldwide media driven studio that distributes big name movies like all the latest Star Wars, ID4, half of Titanic. Fox also has an independent distributer named Fox Searchlight, who is responsible for independent films like One Hour Photo and The Good Girl. The highest grossing independent film is My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which is aimming towards the 200 million mark.

If you switch the opening dates of Spiderman and SW2 you would not have spiderman grossing nearly as much.
Spiderman came out at the perfect time when there were NO movies out (Scorpion King had come out two weeks earlier)
and thats about it. Put SW on that opening day and you don't see weekend records being broken but you see
spiderman not making as much two weeks later.
