That's incredible. I thought that Potter's popularity was at peak, looks like we got something new today!

Now that is good news because it means more sequels (which could turn out to be bad news if they turn into Batman-like sequels).Too bad that AOTC comes out in 2 weeks and Spiderman won't have a nice run as the 1 movie in the country

I liked the movie alot and I'm happy to see it did this well

Anyone else find it strange that hardly anyone has a bad word to say about Spiderman?

I haven't seen the movie yet, but my comment concerns the promotion. From the trailers and commercials, I didn't think it would be such a big deal. I thought the movie would be worth a look but I never had one of those "gotta see it" type of reactions like I did for say... Lord of the Rings. How did it create such a buzz and secondly, why did I miss it completely?

Because it's one of the oldest and most popular comic book character of all time.

Spiderman probably has a larger fan base than than what you think?

Simple, not everyone can identify with, has read, or knows about LOTR.

You'd have to have a pretty sheltered life, no childhood, or simply be too stoned to NOT know Spiderman.

LOTR = uber geek males and Spiderman = a movie for the masses. As the article said, the split was 50/50 male/female for Spiderman...doubtful if that happened for LOTR.

To each his own. Obviously diehard LOTR fans are, well, diehard LOTR fans, but to me the Spider-Man trailers were a lot more enticing than the ones for LOTR (or, ultimately, the LOTR movie itself). I can't wait to see Spider-Man, but will wait until the crowds die down a bit first.

How many 3 year old kids do you see running around a grocery store raving about LOTR?

Now, how many 3 year olds do you see running around the grocery store with a box of "Spiderman Cereal" screaming "Spiderman! Spiderman!" The last 3 times I've gone grocery shopping, I've seen at least one kid dancing around with some sort of spiderman food product in his hand.

Spiderman has young kids, teenage kids, adults, and EVEN *gasp* Women going to the show. It's audience is FAR more vast than LOTR.

Holy Sh!t!!! $114 million? damn it almost met the budget that it took to make the movie in just one week. That's incredible considering that the budget was a whole lot.

Spider-man rocked!!

was friggin great and can't wait until the sequel.

****WARNING******SPOILER************
At the end of the movie, the Green Goblin's son is going to turn into a villian (my guess), in the comic book who is the GG's son? I'm hoping they say screw who he really is and make him Venom.

Yeah, well where have all these fans been the past few years while Marvel was losing money like crazy?

I hope if they make a new one, that it has Venom and Carnage in it, those are the 2 best villians, and maybe Doc. Oc too and the lizard man. Would be nice to if for a twist, they make venom the enemy at first, and then introduce carnage and make spidey and venom team up.

That movie ROCKED!

I disagree. While it wasn't horrible, the disjointed unrealistic looking CGI really turned me off. Roger Ebert's review summed it up my feelings exactly.

What? That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. They followed the comic book closely, why would they go and do a STUPID thing like that?

***Spoiler***
They already made mention of Eddy Brock, he is the guy that turns into Venom.
They also mentioned Dr Connor, AKA the Lizard.
Also, Harry does become the next Green Goblin.
***End***

Let's all wait and see if they mention Kletus Cassiday in the next film :D Now there's a REAL villian...
