Spider-Man 3 - Confusing Casting?

I just watched Spider-Man 2 (finally) and checked out IMDB for the Spider-Man 3 cast and what I found raises a few questions. I loved Spider-Man when I was a kid, but I was never that into it, so correct me if I'm wrong...

Topher Grace as Eddie Brock...Isn't this Venom? And shouldn't he be a LOT bigger than Topher Grace? Is he planning on putting on 40 pounds of muscle or something? Or am I wrong on this?

Rosemary Harris as Carnage...So Peter's Aunt is going to be Carnage or what? I thought Carnage was a male prisoner that was 25 to 35 or so?

topher is definitely venom. they had a pic of sandman, looks like some editing to make him bigger so it could be the same for topher. also if you have seen x-men 3, they definitely did some stuff to make juggernaut look bigger so who knows what they can do.

Makes sense. They must really want Topher. It'll be weird seeing him play an asshole-type character, though.

The Carnage thing still makes no sense to me.

I'm not too sure about that. They look quite similar, would make sense to have a character that looks like Parker.

Do you think that producers would risk a $250 million movies because Toby and Topher are friends? Toby is replaceable, they were going to replace hime with Jake Gyllenhal for part 2 since he had a back problem - he's not a producer, he's not powerful enough to get his buddy... Don't sell Topher short, he was quite good in Traffic and I'm sure a talented actor.

Since Sam Raimi is directing 3, I have no worries. That guy did an AMAZING job on the first two films, and I fully expect the third to be as good or better than those.

This is my guess too. Topher did do a great job in Traffic and he did sorta play and assholeish character.

My question about venom and carnage does not deal with the casting. It deals with WHY THEY WERE INCLUDED IN THIS MOVIE AT ALL!

Venom requires so much set-up that I'll be happily suprised if they can pull it off in a single movie. Carnage is quite a bit more involved than venom, and I hope his being mentioned is little more than an attempt to get people talking.

I am a huge Spider-Man fan, I have been since my first comic book. It will pain me if these two characters are messed up in this movie. Why couldn't they have just left it at Sandman, and furthered the Harry Osborne ---> Green Goblin II angle.

I trust Sam Raimi. I just hope they haven't bitten off more than they can chew with this movie. (kinda like they did with X-3)

(for the record, I think Topher is a great choice for Venom)

I hope they don't screw this up by having too many villians. You need one good guy, one bad guy in a super hero movie.

Yeah, I just realized that there'll be atleast 4 bad guys in the movie. O_O

WTF? This is the first I'm hearing of Carnage and it's his aunt......that's not right at all. Carnage was Carnage because the symbiot suit fed off the guys rage and murderous instincts. How will "Sweet ol' Aunt May" feed into Carnage?????

Agreed. I'd get rid of Sandman, center it around Harry as Green Goblin, keep Venom but make him kind of neutral, and introduce Carnage at the end as a cliffhanger.

On IMDB they only list Topher as Eddie Brock I guess. Does that mean no Venom, just Brock's character? But then how can Carnage come into play?

It's just IMDB, so who knows.
