Sooo, I've recently graduated and I've moved into my new apt in Austin.

Today I went shopping for a bed and ended up getting a bed that costs $1800 delivered.

Its a Miralux bed, never heard of it but its really comfortable. Ill see what its like after sleeping on it tonight.

Anyway, is $1800 too much to spend on a mattress or is that good for something you can use for more than 10 years?

Im just trying to ease my mind.

a good night's sleep is priceless.

with that said, i do think it's a bit expensive unless that job you've got lined up gives you a decent amount

You can't put a price on a good nights sleep.

I paid $1500 for my Simmon's backrest king bed and would drop it again in a heart beat.

It's a pillowtop. They really can't be flipped or rotated. That's pretty much the norm for most higher end matresses.

Just looking at that bed makes my back hurt. I like a nice firm bed. Heck, best sleep I ever had was on a slab of sun warmed concrete one afternoon. Hmmm, I'm off to Home Depot to buy materials to build myself a new mattress.

And what Conjur said. Hope you got a good mattress cover, keep those dead skin cells in the launderable material.

Yeah dude, it's ALL about pillowtops now. I got a good deal on mine. I got an awesome cast-iron Bombay bed frame from a friend and then picked up a boxspring and Serta pillowtop for about $500 from Sam's Club. SO comfy. Those commercials aren't kidding, I went to take a nap after lunch and passed out for like 5 hours lol. Oh, and I just got my Ikea king-size goose-down comforter today...sleep heaven :) The new beds are all waist-high now, it's just the latest trend. I'm scared to think about what will happen if I ever roll off my bed tho

Tempurpedic mattresses - the foam type - are awesome to sleep on and awesomely expensive. I want to get one ... my gf has a full sized Tempurpedic and I can't tell you enough about it.

I got a free mattress from a friend, it's pretty beat up, still works well though, but it's bowing in the middle so it isn't totally comfy anymore :(

If you paid the retail price, you got ripped off. It's like buying a car, at most places the salesman are on commission are are willing to come down quite a bit to make a sale. I bought a mattress two years ago here in Autin (Mattress Firm IIRC) that retailed for over $1000, they guy came down to $700 or $750 so easily that I felt like I got ripped off by not getting him down more. He threw in the upgraded frame and stain protector nonsense as well.

lol I do hope I dont fall off of it.

The guy also tried to sell me this cover that will keep everything out. They had the material on a jar and no water or wetness got through.

Is this something I should get? It was like 80 bucks...

I just replaced mine, don't think it was one of those high end ones. It'd gotten nasty over time though - mattress underneath is pristine. Replaced it with a $7 one from WallyWorld which looks to be similar to the old one. Furniture store wanted $60, but they didn't have any in stock which is how I ended up going to WW. Expensive or cheap model, use one.
