Spending an entire summer in Boston...what do I do?

My GF's sister just bought a house in Boston and they've invited us to stay for the summer. They are close and miss each other, so we decided that it would be fun to live somewhere else for a short period of time. We are both in grad school or will be next year with no obligations and no responsiblities. Being that we are staying for a significant amount of time and that I've never been to the east coast minus Florida, I'm not sure what my options are.

I want to go to NYC and Washington DC for a bit and I might even work if the employer doesn't mind summer help.

So bascially I am looking for things to do in or around Boston, and even perhaps going to other places in addition to NYC and DC.

You could also bring your gf to shop at the Cambridge Galleria Mall... Walk around the Boston Common... Go clubbing near Fenway... Theres a Great Adventure outside Boston I forget where...

I live on the same complex as the Cambridgeside Galleria. Let's go racing on the Mass Pike.

I spent literally an hour trying to figure how to get from Memorial Drive to the Galleria. Kept taking the wrong turn and heading back to Storrow Drive

I understand that there are lots of great bars and pubs in Boston, along with some great seafood. So, my suggestion would be to eat, drink, and have a good time.

I live in Quincy, and Boston is a great place to stay for a while. What do you like to do? Outdoor activities? Night life? Museums? You can PM me if you like for specifics, but you are only limited by money. I suggest a whale watch too. I had a great time with that. A relaxing fun day can be had visiting the Harbor Islands. Blue Hills for hiking, although if you are into the outdoors, you might want to go to New Hampshire if you can get a ride. Bicycling is problematic, with the crazy drivers here. I feel more comfortable and safe riding 150+ on the VT or NH interstates on my Hayabusa than on a bicycle in Boston. I could always throw you on the back of it for a thrill :D

The North End has consummate restaurants. Other good ones can be found all over. We had an OT meet at Jillians next to Fenway. Good night life place. Like I said, you can PM me if you have more questions.

Living on the Cape, I have first hand experience with this: Come now, during the week. Yeah, not everything is open yet, but the traffic is nothing compared to what it will be in 2 months. If you do come during the summer, Tues-Thurs is your best bet, as most of the weekend folks have already left or are still on the way. Avioding the Bridges (Sagamoure/Bourne) on the weekends as it can usually take an hour to cross them (they're the only way ontpo the Cape). And if it's raining, just go back to sleep.

If your looking for places to eat, the stretch between Hyannis and Harwich on Rte.28 probably have around 60 different restaurants to choose from.

Ugh, I hate going to the Cape during the weekends in the summer. Luckily I don't have to deal with the overcrowded beaches as my family has a private one, but the traffic is friggin murder. And the friggin rotaries don't help matters, especially since people don't seem to realize there are TWO lanes.
