Speedy Gonzalez
Featuring the voice of Mel Blanc as 'Speedy Gonzales'
Written by Buddy Kaye, Ethel Lee & David Hill
From - Pat Boone's Greatest Hits

Spoken:
It was a moonlit night in old Mexico. I walked alone between some old
adobe haciendas. Suddenly, I heard the plaintive cry of a young Mexican girl.

(Female voice singing a series of 'La-la-la's')

You better come home, Speedy Gonzales
Away from Tannery Row
Stop alla your a-drinkin'
With that floozie named Flo
Come on home to your adobe
And slap some mud on the wall
The roof is leakin' like a strainer
There's loadsa roaches in the hall
Speedy Gonzales, why don'tcha come home?
Speedy Gonzales, how come ya leave me all alone?

Spoken in a male Mexican accent
Hey, Rosita
I hafta go shopping downtown for my mudder
She needs some tortillas and chili peppers

Your doggy's gonna have a puppy
And we're runnin' outta coke
No enchiladas in the icebox
And the television's broke
I saw some lipstick on your sweatshirt
I smelled some perfume in your ear
Well if you're gonna keep on messin'
Don't bring your business back a-here
Mmm, Speedy Gonzales, why don'tcha come home?
Speedy Gonzales, how come ya leave me all alone?

Spoken in a male Mexican accent
Hey, Rosita
Come queek
Down at the cantina they giving green stamps with tequila!!

Yes they did but damn if you say you liked them you'll be considered a racist!

This is a song by Pat Boone. Mel Blanc (Voices of Bugs Bunny and MANY others) did some of the voices in the song.

So what's racist about that statement Speedy made?

Tequila being sold in Mexico at a cantina? Tequila is, as far as I can remember, exclusively made in Mexico and finding it being sold in a cantina in Mexico is about as racist as finding Vodka being sold inMoscow or Samual Adams being sold in Boston.

Green stamps maybe? Not hardly, unless you don't know what green stamps are, and you're probablynot old enough to know what they are.

Green stamps were collected by purchasing items, saving them in books at 50 stamps per page.....one stamp per dollar spent.....and were found mostly at grocery stores although many other stores would sometimes offer them as an inducement to come in and buy and item for them. Fill enough books and trade them for items, such as blenders, vacuums, and such, at the Green Stamp Redemption Centers. Green stamps survived until the '70's I believe, but were forced out by simple lower prices.

The green stamp concept still survives today but in different forms.........airline miles given on credit card purchases, VISA's Reward thing.....reward points for dollars spent, and on and on.

Don't see much racisit here..........just some old era references.

No, not the song **LOL** The cartoons. They pulled all the old Speedy Gonzalez and any other type of Warner Bros carttons that had racial comments/themes or like Bugs Bunny doing the blackface routine, that kind of thing....... All gone from tv. I forget when I heard about it but I'd say 3-5 years ago at least.
