Speedtest says 92k/sec download. Torrent says i'm d/l at 108k/sec?

just ran speedtest and it says 92kbytes/sec download.
then started my torrent and it's says 108k/sec.

which is more accurate/believeable?

Torrents generally, since there not limited by a single server on the other end like a speed test is.

Edit: although I can't imagine any speed test server being limited by a 1mbit connection. Probably just slower because of the route from you to the speed test server.

Try multiple speed tests servers, and use http://www.speedtest.net, depending on where a server is, it will change your speed, if I test to Seattle [about 30 miles form me, I will peg 60-70Mb/s, if I test to Miami, Fl [opposite corner of the country], thousands of miles from me, I will be lucky to get 10 Mb/s.

Both are accurate/believable. Especially on a service as low quality and flaky as a 1Mbit DSL line, advertised speeds are *not* guaranteed. If one was saying 2Kbps and the other 100Kbps, i'd say something was wrong. Two separate tests within 10Kbps of each other? Well within even the margin of error for the testing methodologies.

Speed tests usually measure in BITS per second not BYTES. So are you sure about that?

No idea what torrent rating are, but speed tests generally measure bits per second becasue that's how internet access is sold in bits per second, iE Comcast sells 105 Mb/s and that's Megabits per Second not Mega Bytes per second which would be MB/s.

10 kilobytes is piss in the wind, sorry dude. Well within margin of error, network overhead, normal variable available bandwidth, etc.

There's nothing wrong with your connection, and both tests are accurate. There's no magic switch you can flip to always get that extra 10 kilobytes a second. Run that speedtest a dozen times in a row and you'll get a different number somewhere around that 92k/second every time.

1Mbps DSL. It is amazing how they can still sell this to consumers. Century link is notorious for advertising 40Mbps DSL then telling you your area only 1.5Mbps is available. Meanwhile in my area comcast just upped my line to 50Mbps but it speed tests out consistently at 100Mbps.

Speedtests are not always accurate. I typically get horrible performance results when testing the 4-5 servers geographically nearest me. But I've found one about 900 miles away that I always get consistently high reliable speeds too. The nearest isnt always the most accurate. Its the server with the best bandwidth and cleanest routing to you.
