Hello, I recently got Bellsouth FastAccess DSL Xtreme. It claims to offer 3MB/s down and 384KB/s up. Hoever, I am only getting about 1.9MB/s down and 320KB/s up. I have run many different bandwith testing programs. Also, my connection seems to randomly drop about 5 times day for about a minute. What is going on here?

How far away are you from the Bellsouth company office?

I think DSL speeds matter on how far you are from the CO; cable signals, IIRC, don't degrade

Well after playing around with my router (Westell 2200), I have gotten it up to around 2700 down and 350 up. Will report back later.

Due to overhead with dsl you are only going to get 80 to 85 percent of the advertised speed.

If you continue to have problems try going to Bellsouth forums

That sounds about right. People tend to overlook the "up to" part when looking at what speeds are advertised. Of course, the vendors like to down play the "up to" part also ;)
