Speeding up mouse response?

I'm always feeling that my mouse is moving too slow. Right now, I'm using a Habu at maximum sensitivity (Windows Sensitivity at 7.5-ish) at 1000Hz and 2000 DPI, and I still feel as though the cursor isn't moving fast enough. I've tried the Windows sensitivity higher, but the cursor winds up skipping horridly. My prior 'primary' mouse was a Logitech 518, and that was even slower. I have a variety of Logitech wireless mice, but shelved those due to the hefty weight and cursor sluggishness. My Copperhead offered similar performance to the Habu, but I didn't like the formfactor. I do wish my Habu was about half as heavy as it currently is.

I'm thinking it is my mousing surface, which at the moment is a generic OfficeDepot pad. I've tried a handful of others, but I can't seem to find the right one. I'm a bit limited, as I need the mousepad to be no more than 7.5" in width to fit on my desk without requiring some serious monitor rearrangement (2x22" widescreen LCDs). Most "gamer" mousepads are far too big for my desk's layout (for those curious, I have one monitor directly in front of me, a foot from the edge of the desk, and the other monitor separated by 4 inches to the right and angled 45 degrees).

Anywho, I don't think the mouse is the problem, as I've tried all major "average" and "top-end" mice except the G5 and G7 (I've got several hundred dollars worth of mice in my closet...I'm a bit of a mice and keyboard freak), and the Habu has been about the best I've used, if a bit on the heavy side. Does anyone have any recommendations as to mouse/tweaks/settings/mousepad/general desk layout? =P

Without a doubt... period.. no questions the best mouse pad that changed my life was the Rezer Mantis gaming pad. It's a dream -- heck it's 10 dreams in one. It's huge and the surface honestly makes my gaming fluid and easy to do. Also the mouse pad is so huge but no worries -- it just fits under my keyboard and monitor. I don't care as I use all the space I need and don't care if half of it is covered from other stuff.

For a mouse i went and actually got a razer diamondback and returned it. I could not get the sensitivity correct. I now have 2 Logitech G5 and those to this date are the best fit for my hand and playstyle.

I find wireless mice at times have issues... some shut off and have a delay when they sit there for a bit due to wanting to save battery life.

Wow, that mate is *huge*; 444mm is more like a small desk mat than a mouse pad 😉 I'll have to keep that in mind. I was looking at the eXactMat at my local CompUSA, but it was far too big . The Mantis is flat-out oversized, so I can lay my keyboard on it without the keyboard flopping all over the place.

I'm toying with the idea of simply attempting another rearrange of my desk, since my LCDs are widescreen, if I sit them side by side in a straight line while facing square on my primary, I tend not to be able to see the far 1/3rd of my secondary monitor. If I angle in my secondary, then that just reduces the available mousing area even further. I also thought about a G5, but didn't like its feel compared to the Habu when trying out a friend's. Plus, with the Habu's buttons, I still run out too quick.

Thanks for the suggestion BoboKatt.
