Do all speeding tickets go on your record? I have probably received something like 6 over 10 years. Is that a lot? I've never gotten off with a warning or anything even for 5 mph over. Maybe I'm just unlucky. Last night I got a ticket and he claimed I was doing 80 in a 55, which I find hard to believe since I was following traffic. I've never noticed my rates change before, but this is by far the biggest ticket I've received. Any advice? This is in Minnesota.

Generally, yes. They usually only stay on the driving record for 3 years...and if your state allows you to take "traffic school," you can usually keep it off your record...but you're also usually limited as to how often you can do this. In California, I think it's once every 18 months.

Any time you get a ruling that doesn't include "adjudication withheld" You are assessed points. Points cost money for your insurance. I guarantee that you have increased rates by now. Unless you always get a lawyer and he "takes care of it". Simply paying the ticket is pleading guilty and accepting the points. (Dunno if MN has the points system though)

3 or so years ago I got nabbed twice within 2 weeks along the same stretch of road driving up to Minneapolis. After driving 7 hours you just wish you were there... and the cops up there are horrible. I think I was going 80 in a 70 and they nabbed me right away.

Bigger cities = less tickets based on my experience.

And yeah, tickets drop off after 3 years, at least in Illinois.

Minnesota does not use a point system, but any 4 driving infractions in 12 months will suspend your license.
